A Watercolour Springtime
Here in Lyon, "watercolour" wouldn't exactly describe the springtime we're experiencing. "Summer scorcher colours" with mainly reds, yellows and browns of already-ripened fruit and withering plants would be more representative.
Regardless, I completed a more toned-down, pastel quilt than the weather we're having and wanted to share it here:
I learned the importance of the accurate 1/4" seam, and the difference that 2mm can make, as I covered in an earlier blog post. In consequence, my blocks didn't match up, but I soldiered on anyway, believing that 'close enough is good enough'.
I used (imitation) Toile de Jouy on the back, which was once a traditional French fabric, now mostly made in China:
I experimented by embroidering a little border along the edge with a twin needle, and I rather liked the result:
Along the border, I machine-embroidered the following poem, which was written by an excellent American poet, and which I thought was both nostalgic and somewhat wistfully sad while evocatively painting an effective tableau of springtime:

Worship this world of watercolor mood
in glass pagodas hung with veils of green
where diamonds jangle hymns within the blood
